Maxine Rose Irons of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday morning, August 8, 2010, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 94 years.
Maxine Rose Irons was born on October 10, 1915, in Deer Creek, Oklahoma, to Joseph and Nellie (Van Cleave) Flood. She grew up in Deer Creek attending Deer Creek Schools. Following her education she began working for the Kress Department Store in Blackwell. She married Vernon Lee Irons on October 5, 1941, in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he was stationed in the military. While in Lawton the department chain transferred her to work in their local Lawton store. Following their return to Blackwell she began working for Fey's IGA and Thriftywise Grocery Stores for several years. She later returned home to serve her family as a homemaker. Her husband preceded her in death on March 4, 2000, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell where she taught Beginners Sunday School Class for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and camping.
She is survived by her son, Ronnie Irons and wife Janet of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a grandson, Christopher Irons and wife Linda of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a granddaughter, Heather Barriger and husband Dan of Ponca City, Oklahoma; three great grandchildren, Alexes and Hunter Irons of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Carter Barriger of Ponca City, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marguerite McCoy; and a brother, Kermit Flood.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 12th in the First Baptist Church in Blackwell with Mark Meador officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin, Oklahoma.
Casketbearers will be Fred Heath, David Haney, Karl Stone, Cecil Day, Marion Wright and Darrin Wright.
A memorial has been established in her honor with the American Heart Association in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
