Obituary

On Sunday, May 23, the corner of heaven was lifted down, and Maurine Sheets was carried up in spirit on the golden wings of a thousand angels. Both of Maurine's grandfathers acquired land in the Cherokee Run. It was on that land and in that humble, Christian home where her father lived his entire life that Maurine was born November 14, 1926. She graduated from Red Rock High School and attended three semesters at Oklahoma State. She also attended NOC where she earned an Associate's Degree.

In 1951, she moved to Blackwell with her two daughters, Cynthia and Cathy, and became manager of Montgomery Ward. In 1962, she married Norman Leo Sheets, and in 1964, their son Brad was born. After Brad was born, she worked at the high school and sold real estate until she retired. Maurine and Leo committed their lives to service in various civic organizations until they moved to the Baptist Living Center in Oklahoma City. She and her husband Leo both served in their church where Maurine enjoyed playing in the hand-bell choir, and Leo served as usher. They also volunteered at the Red Cross where they helped with the blood drive and at the hospital where she worked in the gift shop. Maurine always enjoyed working in her yard, quilting, crocheting, sewing, playing Bridge, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was most happy when she was in a social situation.

Her husband Leo preceded her in death in February, and they would have been married 48 years on June 8th. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Cathy Carpenter Dobbs, her parents, and her brother Glen Ratliff. She is survived by her son Norman Bradley Sheets of Yukon, her daughter Cynthia Carpenter Thomas of Fredericksburg, TX, two brothers Orla Ratliff of Oklahoma City and Dr. Hansel Ratliff of Norman, her grandchildren Hansel, Meredith, Andrea, and Cody, and one great-grandson, Carson, who she had the great privilege to hold.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 27th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kristen L. Brown of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Braman Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimer's Research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
