Obituary

Mary Alice Kirby of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday afternoon, April 28, 2010, at her home in Blackwell at the age of 80 years.

Mary Alice Kirby was born on October 25, 1929, in Proctor, Oklahoma, to David and Elsie (Kindle) Crittenden. She grew up in Proctor attending Proctor Public Schools. Following her education she moved to Siloam Springs, Arkansas, where she worked for a poultry processing plant and later as a waitress. She married Charley Lee Kirby on January 30, 1954, in Siloam Springs and they settled in Washington D.C. where he was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base. In 1956 they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, as a transfer with the Air Force. In 1957 they moved to Blackwell to make their home and she served her family as a homemaker. She attended the Southside Nazarene Church in Blackwell. She enjoyed cooking, baking, walking and her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Charley Kirby of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two daughters, Patsy Haught and husband Richard of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Sharla Sutton and husband Andrew of Nardin, Oklahoma; a son, David Kirby and wife Tammie of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a brother, Elbert Crittenden and wife Nellie of Westville, Oklahoma; four sisters, Edith Silcox and husband Norman of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Melba Melvin and husband Billy of Lawton, Oklahoma, June Rose of Okemah, Oklahoma, and Billie Kidd and husband Bobby of Pueblo, Colorado; five grandchildren, Keith and Evan Haught of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Stephen Sutton of Hawaii, and Ashley and Arin Kirby of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and four great grandchildren, Sciden Haught of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Keystan Kirby of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Scott and Garrison Sutton of Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terry Kirby; and two sisters, Gretta Noblin and Juanita Weaver.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 1st in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with James W. Roberts of Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Richard Haught, Andy Sutton, Billy Heath, Keith Haught, Evan Haught and Stephen Sutton. Serving as flower girls will be Ashley and Arin Kirby.

A memorial has been established with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for breast cancer research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
