Mae Arthurs was born on February 7, 1919, in Perry, Oklahoma, to Albert and Elizabeth (Harrington) Thiele and grew up on a farm east of Blackwell. On October 20, 1936, she married Kenneth C. Arthurs in the St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Blackwell. In 1939 they moved to Maywood, California, to make their home. In 1942, they returned to Blackwell where her husband entered the United States Army serving during World War II while Mae continued to help her mother and father on the farm along with being a homemaker in her own home. Mae attended beauty college and eventually owned and operated her own beauty shop, Mae's Beauty Salon, in her home in Blackwell. Her husband's ill health forced her to retire and care for him.
She is survived by her son, Allen Arthurs and wife Valerie of Catoosa, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Melody Arthurs and Heather Taylor and husband Jason; great grandchildren, Brayden and Grayce Taylor; two brothers, LeRoy and Robert Thiele; and her sister, Rose Lee.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Edwin and Alfred Thiele; and three sisters, Beatrice Miller, Helen Lawrence and twin sister, Fae Johns.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 20th, in the St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Blackwell. Rev. Tim Dreier of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Rev. James Dehne of Newkirk, Oklahoma, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Carl Reutter, Mike Schmidt, Ramon Thiele, Chance Miller, Al Maddox and David Kahle.
A memorial has been established with the Lutheran Hour Ministries in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
