Obituary

Lyman Frank Harman of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died early Saturday morning, July 12, 2008, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas, at the age of 80 years.

Lyman Frank Harman was born on April 22, 1928, in McPherson, Kansas. He was the son of Alvin S. and Nellie Olive (Miller) Harman. He grew up in Chase, Kansas, attending Chase Public Schools and graduating from Chase High School in 1946. He then went on to further his education at Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. In January 1951 he entered the United Stated Navy –Seabees, serving in the Korean Conflict. On March 28, 1951, he married Wilma Irene Masters and they made their home in the Nardin and Blackwell area. He worked as a farmer before beginning to work for H&H Tank Service. He was then joined by his Navy friend, Bob Bayles, forming B&H Trucking Company. He later began Harman Drilling Company working along-side his sons. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Blackwell, the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma Irene Harman of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two daughters, Karen (Harman) McGowan of Lawrence, Kansas, and Sharon (Harman) White of Lawrence, Kansas; three sons, Lyman Wayne Harman of Fallon, Nevada, Lee Edwin Harman of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and David Clift Harman of Franklin, Tennessee; one sister, Olive Ann Price of Alligator Point, Florida; fourteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson.

Services are set for 2:00 pm, Tuesday July 15, 2008, at the First Christian Church in Blackwell, Oklahoma, with Rev. Jeff Koch of the First Christian Church in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Rev. Vern Richerson of the First Christian Church in Arkansas City, Kansas, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin, Oklahoma,

Honorary Casketbearers are Larry Cannon, Frank Dyer, Darrell Reese, Fred Eberle, Bart Cox, Bruce Hammer, Mark Cordell, and Mark Ganer.

Casketbearers are Greg Harman, Grady Harman, Master Sgt. Joey Handy, Jason Maness, Morgan Carmichael, Cory White and Jared Harman.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Blackwell, Oklahoma, or the Wilma Harman Scholarship Fund at the Northern Oklahoma College in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
