Lloyd Everett Richmond of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday morning August 24, 2008, at the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years.
Lloyd Everett Richmond was born on December 28, 1919, in Lovila, Iowa. He was the seventh son of Ezra Columbus and Della (Cooper) Richmond. As a small boy he moved with his parents to Blackwell, Oklahoma, where he attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School. He then joined the United States Marines during World War II where he was stationed in Hawaii. After his discharge he moved back to Blackwell where he began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company. He also began playing baseball for the Blackwell Broncos where his team was district champions in 1949. In 1947 he married Dovie Lou Webb in Wellington, Kansas, and they made their home in Blackwell. After the Blackwell Zinc Company closed he began working for the Oklahoma State Highway Department retiring in 1981. After retirement he traveled with Dovie throughout the United States. On January 10, 2008, she preceded him in death and he continued to make Blackwell his home. He enjoyed spending time with his family and teasing and joking with them. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Blackwell.
He is survived by one son, Michael Richmond and wife Linda of Blackwell, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Tiffany Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews including one special niece Shirley Oglesby.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers and sisters.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2008, in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Koch of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Jon Webb, Curtis Webb, Craig Webb, Bob Webb Jr., Tom Oglesby, Jon Sutton, Steve Broughton and Grady Birdsong.
A memorial has been established at the Wheatheart Nutrition Center in Blackwell, Oklahoma in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
