Lindy Woodruff of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday afternoon, October 29, 2008, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age 80 years.
Lindy Woodruff was born on May 9, 1928, on the family farm west of Braman, Oklahoma, to William Lyle and Bessie (Wise) Woodruff. He grew up in rural Braman attending Battle Axe Rural School before attending Blackwell High School. To assist his father with the family business after school, he transferred to Newkirk High School his senior year graduating from Newkirk High School in 1946. He entered the United States Army on October 2, 1946, serving until his honorable discharge on March 23, 1948. Following his discharge he attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa for two years receiving his associate's degree. He married Betty Lou Bacher on December 18, 1953, in Blackwell and they settled in Blackwell. He worked as a molder at the Acme Foundry in Blackwell for over thirty years retiring in 1981. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell where he enjoyed cooking for the JOY Group meetings. He also held membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed gardening and family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchild.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Woodruff of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a daughter, Susan Carpenter and husband Robert of Houston, Texas; a son, Steve Woodruff and wife Penny of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a sister, Wanda Boesch of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a brother, Glenn Woodruff of Tennessee; four grandchildren, Courtney Hale and husband Kyle of Austin, Texas, Kristen Bolen and husband Colby of Houston, Texas, Amber Woodruff of Braman, Oklahoma, and Michael Woodruff of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and great grandchild, Hayden Grell of Braman, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Michael Lynn Woodruff; a brother, Peyton Woodruff; and a sister, Evelyn Walters.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 3rd in the Blackwell Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Moers of the First Baptist Church officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Blackwell Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Honorary casketbearers are Don Swain, David Swain, David Haney, Don Mayden, Kenny Evans, Cecil Day, Don Vickers, Robert Noblett and Earl Webb.
A memorial has been established at the First Baptist Church for the JOY Group or the Television ministry in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
