Obituary

Leroy C. Farabough of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday, March 15, 2013, at his residence at the age of 88 years.

Leroy C. Farabough was born on June 8, 1924, in Nardin, Oklahoma to Dow and Agnes Farabough. He grew up in Nardin attending school in Nardin and then completing his last year of high school in Blackwell, graduating in 1942. Leroy enlisted in the Army in 1943 where his service was with the Military Police, guarding prisoners of war. Leroy was fortunate to have been one of 103 veterans who made the World War II Honor Flight from Oklahoma City to Washington D.C. on September 12, 2012. Following his discharge in 1944 from the Army, Leroy began work at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, where he met his future wife, Vera Ehler. The couple was married March 16, 1947 in Holyrood, Kansas, and spent all of their working years on their farm outside of Nardin, Oklahoma. While farming, Leroy also was the substitute Rural Mail Carrier of Nardin, for his father, Dow Farabough. Upon his father's retirement, Leroy was hired in 1960 for the Rural Mail Carrier position which he held for almost 44 years, serving Nardin and the Deer Creek Route as well (beginning 1972) which involved approximately 130 miles total with both routes. He dearly loved his contact with all the people on his routes and remarked often about how much he loved his job. Leroy also enjoyed history and traveling, having traveled in 47 of the 50 states, & 3 trips to Europe. He was a member of the Nardin United Methodist Church, Rural Letter Carriers Association, VFW and enjoyed visiting with the local farmers and friends at the Nardin Co-op. Retirement from the mail route in 1987 and farming in 1990, eventually brought Leroy and Vera to Blackwell, Oklahoma in 2005 where they have resided up to present.

Leroy is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Vera Farabough; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon (Farabough) Hall and husband James of Arlington, Texas, and Brenda (Farabough) Blohm and husband Charles of Orange, Texas; four grandchildren, Brandon Hall, Andrew Hall, Candace (Blohm) Ward and husband Ross, Morgan Blohm and step-granddaughter Amy (Blohm) Bryce and husband Bob, (sons Barron and Austin Bryce) of Katy, Texas; siblings, Herbert Farabough, Mildred Blunk and husband Don of Wichita, Kansas, and Wesley Farabough of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.
