LEO CHARLES STEWART was born Nov. 18, 1925 to William and Adeline Stewart in Blackwell, Okla. Leo died March 19, 2012, at the age of 86 in Green Valley, Ariz.
Leo attended Blackwell schools, where he played basketball, football and track. He graduated from high school with the Class of 1944 and was immediately inducted into the United States Army in World War II. He served as a sergeant in the Philippines, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was then assigned to the occupation of Japan with the Military Police for one year before he was discharged.
Leo returned to his home town and began working and also attending Junior College. Leo became engaged to Dorothy Parks, his high-school sweetheart. They were married on June 1, 1947. Leo began working for the U.S. Postal Service and became the Assistant Postmaster, then took his retirement in February 1982 and decided to move to Arizona.
Survivors are his wife, Dorothy, and sons Chad Stewart and Scot Stewart, both of Tucson.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Blackwell Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Koch, First Christian Church, Blackwell, Oklahoma, officiating, burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
