Lena Vinita Partee died Saturday morning, July 28, 2012, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital in Blackwell at the age of 95.
Lena Vinita Partee was born on June 4, 1917, in Sweetwater, Texas, the second daughter of Henry M. and Eula (Hamm) Palmer. She was born one day before her father had to register for the draft of World War I. Her father worked for Rock Island Railroad and his work took the family to Randolph, Bryant, Holdenville, Shawnee and El Reno, Oklahoma, where she graduated high school. They then moved to Caldwell, Kansas, where she met Dean Austin Partee and they married on March 20, 1941, in Caldwell, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 6, 2001. Following their marriage they lived in Northeast Grant County where they farmed and raised cattle. They had three children, Shirley Dean, Dean Austin Jr. "Rusty", and Terry John. In 1958, they moved to Kay County to make their home. She was a member of the Braman United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Debra Circle & Service Group. She enjoyed quilting for over 25 years. She also held membership in the Community Social Group (Stitch & Chatter), Sunnyside Merry Mothers, Triumph and Extension Homemakers.
She is survived by two sons, Dean A "Rusty" Partee Jr. and his wife Judy, of Braman, and Terry Partee of Braman; two brothers, Kenneth Palmer and his wife Margret of Wichita, Kansas, and Phil Palmer and his wife Gayle of Chesapeake, Virginia; five grandchildren, Steve and Janie DeWitt, Sheryl and Darrell Street, John and Molly Partee, Christopher and Jessica Partee and Courtney Partee; five great grandchildren, Dane DeWitt. Kayla Street, Drew DeWitt, Dylan DeWitt, and Tuesday Partee; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and loved ones.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Shirley Dean Koehler; three brothers, Buzz Palmer, Ernest Palmer and Ralph Palmer; and four sisters, Betty Overall, Lorena Joy, Marcella Godfrey and Corky Nagel.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 31st in the Braman United Methodist Church with Rev. C. M. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Caldwell Cemetery in Caldwell, Kansas.
Casketbearers will be John Partee, Christopher Partee, Courtney Partee, Steve DeWitt, Sheryl Street and Dane DeWitt. Honorary casketbearers will be Garold DeWitt, Jerry Johnston, Randy Crow, Jim Curl and Gary Fultz.
A memorial has been established with the Braman United Methodist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 West Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
