Obituary

With his family by his side, Larry Cochenour of Blackwell, Oklahoma, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday evening, October 11, 2012, in the Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 71 years.

Larry Cochenour was born on October 29, 1940, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Lloyd Morgan and Lenora H. (Mead) Cochenour. After his mother's death in 1943, his father, Lloyd married Lois Vivian Reid and the family made their home in Kansas. In 1954, Larry, nicknamed Dutch by his family, settled in Phillipsburg, Kansas, where he graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1958. He married Karen Kay Keesee on December 28, 1958, in Phillipsburg and they settled in Ft. Collins, Colorado. He entered the United States Coast Guard on February 24, 1959, and they moved to Alameda, California, before transferring to Seattle, Washington. Following his discharge on February 24, 1963, they moved to Blackwell where he began working with his father at Blackwell Lumber Company. Larry continued to work in the family business until the company sold in 1986. Following the sale, he began working for Conoco in Ponca City and in 1989 began working for the Blackwell Public Schools serving as Director of Maintenance, Transportation and Safety. He retired from the school system in 2008. He was a faithful member of the Blackwell Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and an elder. He also held membership in the Blackwell Lion's Club. He enjoyed genealogy, handcrafts, woodworking and family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Cochenour of Blackwell; three sons, David Cochenour and wife Beverly of Edmond, Oklahoma, Randy Cochenour and wife Ruth of Fulshear, Texas, and Kevin Cochenour of Blackwell; a sister, Jo Ann Jolliff and husband Keith of Newton, Kansas; two brothers, John Cochenour and wife Donnice of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Robert Cochenour and wife Gail of Olathe, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 17th in the Blackwell Church of Christ with Lanny Jobe officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Serving as casketbearers will be Jim Hiatt, David Kersey, Randy Lenaburg, Clarence Logan, Randy Logan and Ron Shoffner. Honorary casketbearers will be Arlen Byers, Bob Fletcher, Darrell Gingerich, Gail Moore and Mike Quirey.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the Blackwell Church of Christ in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
