Kurt Farley Brabander of Deer Creek, Oklahoma, died Sunday, October 4, 2009, at his home in rural Deer Creek, Oklahoma, at the age of 51 years.
Kurt Farley Brabander was born on June 22, 1958, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Edwin George and Lola Marie (Farley) Brabander. He grew up in Deer Creek attending Deer Creek Public Schools graduating from Deer Creek – Lamont High School in 1976. Following his education he assisted with the family farming operation, worked as a custom hay harvester and in the oilfields as a driller and roughneck. He married Janet Loyce Holt on August 26, 1981, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and they settled in Lamont before moving to Tonkawa to make their home. He then attended Indian Meridian Vo-Tech in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where he studied to become an electrical lineman. Following completion of his studies he began working as a lineman for the City of Ponca City. In 1995 they moved to Lakewood, Colorado, where he worked as a lineman for PAR Electric. In 2000 they returned to Oklahoma and he continued working as a lineman before becoming superintendent for central and western Kansas in the transmission and distribution department for J.F. Electric. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the IBEW Union Local #304. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, farming and being with family.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Brabander of Deer Creek, Oklahoma; his parents, Ed and Lola Brabander of Deer Creek, Oklahoma; two daughters, Kursha Brabander Ellis of Perry, Oklahoma, and Jennifer Johnson of Ponca City, Oklahoma; two sons, Kutter Brabander of Perry, Oklahoma, and Jason Holt of Perry, Oklahoma; two sisters, Linda Forsyth of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Rhonda Sprowell of Virginia; and seven grandchildren, Nicholas Anderson of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Dylan and Maddison Brabander of Perry, Oklahoma, Bryce, Aiden and Daysia Ellis of Perry, Oklahoma, and Savanna Holt of Perry, Oklahoma.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 8th in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Tom Ramsey of First Lutheran Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin, Oklahoma.
Serving as casketbearers will be Kutter Brabander, Jason Holt, Paul Emery, Rusty Ellis, Dwight Turner and Stanley Forsyth. Honorary casketbearers will be the members of IBEW Union Local #304 and Ernie Brabander.
