Obituary

Kirk D. Moyer of Ponca City, Oklahoma, died early Friday morning, August 3, 2012, in the Ponca City Medical Center at the age of 55 years.

Kirk D. Moyer was born June 26, 1957, in Blackwell to Bob and Carol Moyer. Kirk was a charter member of the Opportunity Center in 1964, where he received his education and continued to work and live until the time of his death. He was a master hugger, a friend to all, and a teacher of life. He was a special man with a unique way of communicating and taught us all how to laugh at ourselves, love well, pinch often, shut doors, turn off lights, and to appreciate the simple things in life. Kirk was a rare angel put here on earth to show us all the true meaning of joy, hope, life, love and acceptance. He enjoyed music, swimming and was a member of the First Christian Church in Blackwell. We are all better to have had him in our lives.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Moyer of Blackwell; three sisters, Kim Courtney and husband Les of Blackwell, Tammy Leen and husband Mark of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Brenda Russell and husband Jeff of Guthrie, Oklahoma; nieces, Andrea Leen, Tanae Coleman and husband Brad, Tara Fry and husband Brett, Breann Russell and Micah Russell; nephews, Justin Courtney and wife Kelli, Brian Courtney and wife Meg, Jordan Leen and Sage Russell; and eight great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bob, and his grandparents.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 6th in the First Christian Church in Blackwell with Rev. Jeff Koch officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Those serving as casketbearers will be his nephews, Justin Courtney, Brian Courtney, Jordan Leen, Sage Russell, Brad Coleman and Brett Fry. Honorary casketbearers are the residents of the Crabtree and Village Homes in Ponca City, where Kirk lived and worked for the last twenty-two years.

A memorial has been established in Kirk's memory with the Opportunity Center's Special Olympics Fund in c/o of Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.

The family will have a special time to greet friends and family on Sunday afternoon, August 5th from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
