Kenneth R. "Kenny" Sole went home to be with the Lord on July 31st, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Koelling Sole of the home and 3 children, Kenneth G. Sole, Tulsa; Polly Sole Davis and husband, Jim, of Tulsa; Karen Sole Ghormley and husband, Wayne of Blackwell. A son Kenny Joe Sole preceded him in death in 2002. Six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive him.
Kenny was born on May 1, 1911 in Oakland City, Indiana to William and Lillie Huffman Sole. At the time of his passing, he was the last of twelve children of which he was the eleventh.
Kenny went to work for Oklahoma Tire and Supply Co in Tulsa, later known as Otasco. He was transferred to Blackwell to manage an Otasco store in 1937. It was in Blackwell that he along with his wife Beatrice Summers Sole raised their three children and made their home until "Bea" died in 1958. In 1959, Kenny married the former Glenda Koelling and they made their home in Tulsa until Kenny's retirement from Otasco. It was at that time that they moved to the Westport-Keystone area until they returned to Blackwell in 1993.
Kenny was very active in most of the civic organizations in Blackwell as a young business man and enjoyed serving on The Top of the Historical Society board after retiring in Blackwell. Kenny was also an avid thespian and singer taking part in many plays and musicals over the years. Probably his most notable performance was when at the age of 81 he was cast in a Blackwell production of the musical "Oklahoma!" He was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Kenny was a fanatic about his physical fitness and that was most evident in his daily walks, which he did until about the age of 95. One year he figured the mileage to Mexico City and back and walked that many miles that year, boasting that he had walked to Mexico City and back.
It was on May 1st of this year that Kenny turned 100 years old. A lively celebration was given by his children and family. Although he was very feeble, he regaled the group with stories of former activities and accomplishments and led the group in singing some of his favorite tunes always displaying his affable smile.
To know Kenny Sole was to know a man of character and integrity, that could drive a hard bargain to which he would eventually come out on top, that was never afraid to tackle a task, and who had the highest work ethic which he passed on to his children. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and took comfort in the fact that he would be at His feet upon his death. His family loved and adored him and he will be sorely missed in the months and years ahead.
Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 4th at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Matt Smith of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Barry Briggs, Ted Butler, Roger Clark, Glenn Peters, Steve Wooderson, Larry Wykoff, Charles Ray, Gary Boyer, Eugene Braly, Carl Thompson, Vernor Courtney and Dr. Sukumar Chaparala.
In lieu of flowers donations could be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, Blackwell Regional Hospital Emergency Room Campaign, or Hospice of North Central Oklahoma in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74361.
