Obituary

Kenneth Freed Hackett of Blackwell, Oklahoma, left this earth on April 27, 2010, after a very short illness, at the age of 61 years.

Kenneth Freed Hackett was born on August 6, 1948, in Conway, Arkansas, to Freed and Katherine (Dryer) Hackett. He moved with his family to Blackwell at a young age where he attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School. Following his education he entered the United States Army where he served for three years in the Vietnam War. He has been employed at C.F.M. Corporation for almost thirty-four years, serving as foundry manager for the last eleven. While at C.F.M. he has made many loyal friends and co-workers. He married Sondra Vickroy on July 29, 1994, and they settled on the farm west of Blackwell. He enjoyed farming, gardening, following the Oklahoma Sooners and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed spoiling his dog, Maggie May. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Vietnam Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Sondra Hackett of Blackwell, Oklahoma; his mother, Katherine Whitman of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a son, Brian Hackett of Blackwell, Oklahoma; step-children, Cathy (Roach) Stoops and husband Don of Mulhall, Oklahoma, Kristi (Roach) Brown and husband Hershel of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Steve Reid and wife Donna of Blackwell, Okalhoma, and Dewey Vickroy of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Kevin Hackett of Enid, Oklahoma; step-brothers, Garry James Whitman and wife Denise of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Daryl Whitman of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Raymond Whitman of Texas; step-sisters, Donna Rundell and Kathy Spean of Texas; and two nephews, Brandon Hackett and wife Katie of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Cole Hackett of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his grandchildren, who thought the world of him, Ryan Reid and wife Deana, Bekah Stoops, Shane Reid, Mike McClellan, Kelsey Stoops, Morgan McClellan, Courtney Vickroy, Austin Hackett, Taylor Hackett, Madison Vickroy and Sydney Vickroy; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Freed Hackett; step-father, Garry Whitman Sr.; and sister-in-law, Susan (Schmidt) Hackett.

He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 30th in the First Baptist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Matt Smith of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery with military rites performed by the United States Army of Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.

Serving as casketbearers will be Chester Pope, David Ingram, Schott Sprueill, Kenny Evans, Donnie Herren and Barry Stafford.

A memorial has been established with the Veterans of Foreign Ward Ladies Auxiliary for the Avenue of Flags in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
