Kenneth Martin Boyer, 64, of Sunray, formerly of Ulysses, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at his home in Sunray.
Kenneth was born on September 14, 1946 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Elijah and Ruth Boyer. Ken grew up in Blackwell along with seven other brothers and sisters. He graduated from Blackwell High School, and then proceeded to Tonkawa Community College where he received an Associate's Degree in business. He later went to work for City Services in Blackwell. This was the start of his job in the gas field until he retired with BP after thirty years of employment. In 1976, he married Sandra Kay Boyer. In December of 1978, they welcomed their first child, Kendra Rennaye Boyer. They made their home in Watonga, Oklahoma until he was transferred to Ulysses, Kansas in 1989.
On July 13, 2004, Ken lost his first wife Sandi. He stayed in Ulysses until 2008. During this time, he was introduced to Julie Goodwin, formerly Julie Pearson, from Ulysses. They met in 2007 on a trip to Las Vegas, and it was the start of a romantic journey. They were married on April 21, 2008 in Branson, Missouri, and then began their life together in Sunray, Texas. Not only did he gain a great wife, but he gained three more kids, Matt, Mindy and Monty. He did not think of them as step-children, he thought of them as his own.
Ken liked to play golf, garden, and spend time with his friends and especially his grandson, Matthew. He was the highlight of Ken's life. If there was a sporting event, Matthew's Papa was there. He was there every year for Grandparents Day for Matthew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Ruth Boyer; one brother, Bob Boyer; and his former wife, Sandi Boyer.
