Obituary

Kenneth L. Baker of Braman, Oklahoma, died early Saturday morning, May 8, 2010, at his home northwest of Braman at the age of 93 years.

Kenneth L. Baker was born on December 20, 1916, on the family farm northwest of Braman to Luther Edward and Mabel D. (Briggs) Baker. He grew up north of Braman attending Pleasant Hill Rural School and Braman High School graduating in 1935. He furthered his education by attending University Preparatory School in Tonkawa for a year. Following his education he began farming. He married Ruth Estella Laughery on March 1, 1942, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and they settled on the farm where they continued farming. He entered the United State Army Air Corps on May 1, 1942, serving in the European Theater during World War II. Following his discharge on November 14, 1945, he returned to farming until his retirement in 1983. He also worked for two years for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas. His wife preceded him in death on June 23, 1992, and he continued living on the farm. He was a member of the Braman United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Blackwell.

He is survived by his son, Keith Baker and wife Peggy of Braman, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Keith Taylor of Florida, Joshua Baker of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Kenneth Baker Jr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Felicia Baker of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Amanda Henry of Hominy, Oklahoma; and twelve great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eldon Baker; and three sisters, Lois Layton, Julia Campbell and Clarice Tauer.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 11th in the Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, Kansas, with Chaplain Mike Sweetman of Hospice of North Central Oklahoma officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Braman United Methodist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74361.
