Katherine Julia Rohrs of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, November 7, 2012, in the Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 78 years.

Katherine Julia Rohrs was born on November 16, 1933, in Okeene, Oklahoma, to Roscoe Merle and Esther Anna (Hall) Newman. She grew up in Okeene until 1942 when she moved with her family to Blackwell where she attended Blackwell Public Schools. Following her education she married Lewis R. Rohrs on October 19, 1949, in Blackwell and they settled on a farm north of Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker. In the 1960's she began working at the Blackwell General Hospital as a nurse's aide before working a short time at the Grandview Hospital in Ponca City. She later worked as an aide for the Blackwell Nursing Home and Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home. She also worked in home health care at the end of her career. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell. She enjoyed quilting, cross-stitch and her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Lewis Rohrs of Blackwell; two sons, William Ray Rohrs of Blackwell and David Lewis Rohrs of Blackwell; a foster son, Lewis Ray Newman of Blackwell; two brothers, Don Newman of Enid, Oklahoma, and James Newman of Blackwell; two sisters, Barbara Spears of Blackwell and Carolyn McGrew of Crescent, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Michael L. Rohrs of Sealy, Texas, Melissa K. Rohrs of Blackwell, and Katherine N. Rohrs of Blackwell; five great grandchildren, Brittany Rohrs of Blackwell, Austin Rohrs of Sealy, Texas, Jonathan Mercer of Tonkawa, Cody Rohrs of Sealy, Texas, and Hayden Riff of Blackwell; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Evelyn Morris; four brothers, Earl, Raymond, Harold and Lloyd Newman; two nieces, Cathy Bouska and Donna Newman; and two nephews, Ricky Spears and Lonnie Spears.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 12th in the First Baptist Church in Blackwell with Lloyd Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Serving as casketbearers will be Brittany Rohrs, Austin Rohrs, Jonathan Mercer, Cody Rohrs, Hayden Riff and Randy Newman.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the Opportunity Center in Ponca City in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
