Obituary

Judith Anne Steffes of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died early Thursday morning, August 5, 2010, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 64 years.

Judith Anne Steffes was born on September 3, 1945, in Sacramento, California, to Loren and Mildred Anne (Poole) Elder. She grew up in California before moving with her family to Beloit, Kansas, in 1954. In 1962 she moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where she worked at the Wagonwheel Restaurant. In 1968 she moved to Blackwell and worked for the Turvey Packing Company and the Plainsman Restaurant. She married Bernard Franklin Steffes on November 12, 1971, in Blackwell and they settled on farm south of town where she assisted her husband with their farming operation. She also worked for thirty-two years for Southwest Cupid retiring as head marker from the marking room. Her husband preceded her in death on March 3, 2010, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Blackwell. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, craft shows, garage sales and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Wanda Diebold of Enid, Oklahoma, Monica Syverson and husband Todd of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Lizette Higdon and husband Robert of Claremore, Oklahoma; a son, Bryan Steffes and wife Sarah of Bethany, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Nina Leon of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Ariel Higdon of Claremore, Oklahoma, Bryanna Diebold of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Jerod Syverson of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Conner and Donovan Funk of Bethany, Oklahoma; two great grandchildren, Gabriella and Talynn Cummings of Ponca City, Oklahoma; and a sister, Sharon Honn and husband Jerry of Wichita, Kansas.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Charles Elder.

Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Monday, August 9th in the Blackwell Cemetery with the Rev. Eric Dittman of the First Presbyterian Church in Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Honorary casketbearers will be Todd Syverson, Robert Higdon, Joel Siler, Kenny Evans, Larry Purdy, Leon Steffes, Bill Simons and Jerry Honn.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the American Cancer Society in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
