Obituary

Joyce Fay (Hurst) Johnson went to her heavenly home on November 16, 2025, at age 90.

Joyce was born in Maude, Oklahoma on July 7th, 1935, to David William Hurst and Hazel Pauline Boydston Hurst.

Joyce's early years growing up were spent in the Seminole, Oklahoma area. Her father's work moved the family often, but they finally made their home in Blackwell, Oklahoma.

Joyce married Glen R. Johnson, Sr. on April 21st, 1948, and they made their home in Tonkawa for two years before moving to Blackwell early in 1951, where they made their home, raising their family.

She and her husband both joined First Baptist Church of Blackwell in April 1963, together, and attended until his work sent the family elsewhere.

Joyce continued her education, including one year of college getting an Intensive Business Degree, and began working for Continental Oil Company in 1969, retiring in May of 1985.

During her career, she was a bookkeeper, paymaster, billing agent, and handled all tax reports for her husband's business until his retirement.

After that, she took the position of Executive Secretary for Associated Charities in Blackwell for three years. Late 1991, once her husband retired, she then took the managership of a Texaco Service station on the Navajo Reservation in Keyenta, Arizona. She managed the store for a year and decided it was time to come back home to Blackwell.

In 2002 Joyce and her husband, Glen, sold their home on Bridge Street in Blackwell to move to Arkansas Pass, Texas. While residing there they built a new home on a small acreage they owned East of Blackwell. Upon its completion they once again moved back to Blackwell in 2008, to settle into their new home where Joyce was able to get back to her church and faith family.

When she became widowed, she opened her home and became a host for a foreign exchange student from Brazil and mentioned how much she loved doing that, becoming fast friends and loving her like a daughter.

She then tackled the tough job of taking classes once more and earned a degree in writing from the Institute of Children's Literature.

Joyce became an accomplished writer, authoring and publishing two books during her later years of 89 and 90.

She was preceded in death by her husband Glen R. Johnson, Sr., her daughter Pamilla Joyce Johnson-Tripp, her mother Hazel, and father David.

Joyce is survived by her two sisters, Barbara "Jean" Buesing-Morgan of Blackwell, Ok and Betty Alice LaRue of Wichita, KS and leaves behind her four children, Glen R. Johnson, Jr. (Linda Boyle)of Grove, OK, Mark A. Johnson (Kathy), of Ponca City, Ken C. Johnson (Lilly) of Kaw City and Douglas R. Johnson (Ruth)of Ponca City.
