John Louis Towles was born on December 24, 1941, in Wichita, Kansas, to Charles Bryan and Otie M. (Williams) Towles. He grew up in Wichita attending Wichita Public Schools. He joined the United States Army in 1962 and in 1963 transferred into the Reserves. He worked construction, was an auto mechanic and ranch hand. He loved to travel the country. He married Theda J. Towles in 1982 and they settled in Blackwell. He later moved to Ponca City to make his home. He was a member of the A.A.R.P.
He is survived by three step-sons, Kenneth Hughes of Blackwell, Troy Hughes of Arizona, and Cavin Hughes of Guthrie, Oklahoma; and four sisters, Otie Bisterfeldt, Elizabeth Hendricks, Helen Landrum and Joyce Boldea all of Wichita, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl and Charles Towles Jr.; and two sisters, Donna Watson and Fern Rand.
He was cremated and no services are planned.
