Obituary

John William Shouse of Ponca City, Oklahoma, went to meet his God on Saturday, April 15, 2017, in Harlingen, Texas, at the age of 87 years.

John William Shouse was born on August 5, 1929, in Osage County, Oklahoma, to John William and Jennie (Ziemba) Shouse. He attended Blackwell Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1948. While attending school, he worked on farms, a chicken hatchery, an ice house, traveled with custom harvesters, and the Blackwell Flour Company. He was a member of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He married Lois June Asper on January 17, 1954, in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Upon returning from Korea, John began sweeping floors in the International Milling Company in Blackwell; he then worked in Cleveland, Ohio; Lockport, New York; Detroit, Michigan, for ten years before becoming Superintendent of Milling for Nabisco in Toledo Ohio, retiring after twenty years of service in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards and vegetable gardening. He loved traveling and after retiring, they wintered in Texas. He was a member of the Freemasons, Eagles Club, International Association of Operative Millers and Woodlands Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife Lois June Shouse of Ponca City, Oklahoma; one daughter, Jenny L. Kraft of Olive Branch, Mississippi; three sons, John W. Shouse and wife Jeanette of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jefferson T. Shouse and wife Pamela of Andrews, Texas, and Joel P. Shouse and wife Cindy of Oak Island, North Carolina; one brother, Robert Shouse of Blackwell, Oklahoma; one sister in law, Helen Shouse of Blackwell, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and five brothers.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the Woodlands Christian Church, Ponca City, Oklahoma, with Rev. Truman Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Honorary bearers will be Bob Shouse, John Shouse, Jeff Shouse and Joel Shouse.
