Obituary

John Richard Campbell Sr. of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday, November 24, 2011, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 85 years.

John Richard Campbell Sr. was born on August 13, 1926, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. He was the son of Nat and Norma (Barkman) Campbell. He grew up in Pawhuska attending Pawhuska Public Schools. He moved with his family to Blackwell, Oklahoma, as a teenager where he attended Junior High School. After his education he entered the United States Army serving during World War II. Following his discharge from the Army, he moved back to Blackwell and on April 1, 1947, he married Lorene Alexander in Perry, Oklahoma, and they made their home in Blackwell. He began working for Dave Morgan for a short time before working for Blackwell Zinc Company where he worked for twenty four years. After the smelter closed he began working for the City of Blackwell in the Water Department retiring after fourteen years. He was an avid coon hunter, enjoyed watching all sports and spending time with his family. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Blackwell.

He is survived by his wife Lorene Campbell of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two daughters, Sharon Adams and husband Butch and Linda Beard and husband Kenny, both of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two sons, John R. Campbell Jr. and Rick Campbell and wife Marilyn both of Blackwell, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Norma Jean Lewis of Derby, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack Campbell and Dick Campbell; three sisters, Opal Hargraves, Ann Bunch and Pauline Fields; and two grandchildren, Kenny Beard Jr. and Nikki D. Miller.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2011, at the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with James W. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
