Joann Laverne Pennington of Nardin, Oklahoma, died Friday morning February 8, 2013, at the Blackwell Regional Hospital, Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 78 years.
Joann Laverne Pennington was born on February 25, 1934, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Vern C. and Alice (Heap) Stewart. She attended and graduated Blackwell Public Schools. She married Harold G. Pennington on April 12, 1952, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and he preceded her in death on September 28, 2004. She loved to cook, especially Sunday lunch for her family. She enjoyed camping and going to her grandchildren's ball games. She also enjoyed spending time with her dog Bear, and holiday time with her family. She retired from Braum's after working there for nineteen years.
She is survived by four sons, Stephen W. Pennington of Nardin, Raymond C. Pennington of Blackwell, Chester L. Pennington of Blackwell, and Scott Pennington of Blackwell; a sister, Barbara Sheets of Braman; a brother, Robert Stewart of Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Harold N. Pennington; two brothers, Ronald and Ivan Stewart; a sister, Carol Cheney; and a granddaughter, Kristi Raye Pennington.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 13th in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin with Rev. Robert Foos of Jones, Oklahoma,officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
