Jerry Joe Hall of Blackwell died on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 76 years.
Jerry Joe Hall was born on May 20, 1935, in Blackwell to Howard Adam and Bernice Hildred (Wilson) Hall. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools and graduated in 1954. He married Venita Ann Bray on March 3, 1954, in Sherman, Texas, and they settled in Blackwell where he worked at the Blackwell Zinc Company. In the mid 1960's he owned and operated the Riverside Auto Salvage before beginning his gospel music ministry in the late 1960's traveling throughout the United States spreading the gospel message as the Gospel Gleaners. In 1980 he formed the Helmsmen Quartet, of which he was the lead singer, and they traveled nationally sharing God's music. In the mid 1990's he continued his singing career as a solo artist which included his sons and grandsons. He also owned and operated, with his son Kevin, an antique store in Blackwell. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed singing, garage sales and auctions.
He is survived by his wife Ann Hall of Blackwell; a daughter, Jerri Ann Bringham and husband Terry of Valrico, Florida; two sons, Kevin Hall of Blackwell and Randy Hall of Branson, Missouri; a sister, Bernice Denison and husband Jon of Joplin, Missouri; a brother, David Hall and wife Diane of Ponca City; and five grandchildren, Dustin Bringham and wife Alison of Yukon, Madison Schork and husband Danny of Valrico, Florida, Kasey Hall of Stillwater, Wyatt Hall of Yukon, and Baylie Hall of Branson, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Donald Hall; a granddaughter, Tonya Rae Bringham; and a grandson, Tyler Hall.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 21st in the First Free Will Baptist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Kevin Bookout and Rev. Robert Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Honorary casketbearers will be David Hall Jr., Cal Denison and Jamie Denison. Serving as casketbearers will be Dustin Bringham, Wyatt Hall, Kasey Hall, Brian Hall, Terry Hall and Donnie Hall.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for kidney research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
