Obituary

Barbara "Jean" Hendrix formerly of Nardin, Oklahoma, died Sunday, November 4, 2012, in Florissant, Missouri, at the age of 76 years.

Barbara "Jean" Hendrix was born on July 27, 1936, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Joe Herbert and Thelma Elizabeth (Cooper) Bontz. She grew up in Nardin and attended Blackwell Public Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1954. Following her education she began working for an insurance company in Blackwell. She later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she began working for the Bank of Tulsa. She married Elvis Lee Hendrix in May of 1975 in Catoosa, Oklahoma, and they settled in Florissant, Missouri, where she worked for a temporary employment service. She was active in Eastern Star and served as Past Grand Matron and held membership in the Florissant Chapter 161. She enjoyed shopping and watching various sports competition throughout the year. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Elvis Lee Hendrix of Florissant, Missouri; a daughter, Mary Beth Vaughan and husband Bud of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a son, Mel Hendrix and wife Cathy of Bridgeton, Missouri; a sister, Marilee Wardlow of Blackwell; six grandchildren, Danya Winters and husband Eric, Jacob Andrews, Erin Vaughan, Kevin Fuwell, Joshua Fuwell and Amanda Fuwell; and three great grandchildren, David, Ashley and Brayden Meeks.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Dean Bontz.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 8th in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin with James W. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Jacob Andrews, David Meeks, Brayden Meeks, Joshua Fuwell and Kevin Fuwell.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Komen Foundation in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
