James Ross Mefford Sr. of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died September 2, 2020, in the Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at the age of 86 years.

James Ross Mefford Sr. was born on July 6, 1934, in Wichita, Kansas, to Orie and Beatrice Mefford. He received a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees and worked his adult life as an alcohol and drug counselor for various agencies in Kay County and Kansas. He married Jeanette M. Oliver and she joined him in addiction counseling.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 8 ^th in Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Mefford's family officiating.
