Obituary

Jack Charles Miller of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Saturday, April 04, 2009, at the Blackwell Regional Hospital in Blackwell at the age of 82 years.

Jack Charles Miller was born on January 29, 1927, in Blackwell, Oklahoma. He was the son of Melvin and Bessie (Ritter) Miller. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools. Following his education he entered the United States Navy serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he returned to Blackwell and on August 8, 1946, he married Dolores Aline Leslie in Blackwell and they made their home in Blackwell. He began working at the Acme Foundry in 1947 and worked there until his retirement in July 1990. After his retirement he and Dolores enjoyed gardening and traveled throughout the United States. Jack also enjoyed fishing and built radio controlled airplanes. On March 13, 1999, Dolores preceded him in death and he continued to make Blackwell his home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Clarence, Ray Carl, Earl, and Nelson; and two sisters, Edith, and Velma.

He is survived by one son, David Miller and wife Ruby of Blackwell, Oklahoma; three daughters, Carolyn Stewart and husband Ted of Skiatook, Oklahoma, Brenda Goodger and husband Lester of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Dorleen Howard and husband Tom of Ponca City, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, Andy Stewart, Todd Stewart, Jeremy Stewart, Abe Stewart, Angela Clark, Lacey Goodger, Clint Goodger, Keith Howard, Missy Clark, Brianna Purdy, and Vanessa Miller; eight great grandchildren, Jackson Stewart, Holden Stewart, Libby Clark, Savannah Clark, Maddie Clark, Robert Clark, Aidan Howard and Taylor Hall; one foreign exchange student – foster son, Arie VanHeeringen; and best friend and partner, Sam the cat.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Larry Adkisson officiating. Burial will follow at the Blackwell Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Navy.

Serving as casketbearers will be Keith Howard, Clint Goodger, Todd Stewart, Andy Stewart, Lonnie Purdy, Steve Clark and Jared Merle.

A memorial has been established at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for lung disease research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, OK 74631.
