Obituary

Lloyd Wesley "Jack" Crews of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday morning, February 5, 2012, at his home in Blackwell at the age of 82 years.

Lloyd Wesley "Jack" Crews was born on October 28, 1929, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Alonzo Oder and Maud Annalee (Campbell) Crews. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1948. While in high school he participated on the football and wrestling teams and was a state champion wrestler in his weight division. Following high school, he furthered his education by attending Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa. He married Mary Kathleen Rowls on December 17, 1949, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and they settled in Blackwell where he worked in the construction industry in Stillwater for a short time. He then began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company and worked there for twenty-four years. Upon the closing of the smelter, he began working for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for thirteen years until his retirement. He was a member of the Bethesda Assembly in Blackwell. He enjoyed football, fishing, family and making someone laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Crews of Blackwell; a daughter, Jacqueline Bennett and husband Larry of Enid, Oklahoma; a son, Dennis Crews of Ozark, Missouri; three sisters, Pauline Crews of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Evelyn Abel of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Carolyn Dempewolf of Ponca City, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Lindsey Kirkendall of Ponca City and Julie Bennett-Jones and husband Lt. Sean Jones of Groten, Connecticut; two great grandchildren, Greyson Jones and Gracyn Kirkendall; and an "adopted" grandson, Jourdyn Mooring of Blackwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Sherman Crews; three sisters, Catherine Walker, Vera Marie Bruce and Rosalie Coley; and a granddaughter, Heather Crews.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 9th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Lonnie Rutherford of the Bethesda Assembly officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Jourdyn Mooring, Jim Mooring, Dewayne Wood, Doug McCleary, Allen Sharp and Aaron McRae. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Millard Kelley and Norman Buxton.
