J. D. Womack of Ponca City, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at his residence in Ponca City at the age of 86 years.
J. D. Womack was born on August 24, 1926, in Rural Deer Creek, Oklahoma, to Joseph and Mary (Webb) Womack. He grew up in rural Deer Creek, Oklahoma, attending Deer Creek Public Schools. Following his education he began working for a pipeline in the panhandle of Oklahoma. On December 28, 1944, he entered the United States Navy during World War II serving in Chicago and Detroit. He married Ruby Blanche Walton on August 23, 1945, and was discharged from the Navy on April 27, 1946. Following his discharge they returned to rural Deer Creek where he began farming. He later worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for twelve years and before working for the Clyde Co-Op Association serving as manager and retiring in 1989 after thirty years of service. In the Late 1990s they made their home in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He enjoyed watching O.U. Football and gardening, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Womack of Ponca City, Oklahoma; two daughters, Linda Lively and husband Leon of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Vickie J. Coleman and Evan Cless of Ponca City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Lori Budde and husband Harlan of Oklahoma City, Travis Coleman and wife Allie of Hastings, Florida, Lonnie Lively and wife Kari of Ponca City, and Lacy Schultz and husband Josh of Newcastle, Oklahoma; and six great grandchildren, Cooper and Carson Lively, Mackinzie and Brook Schultz, and Grayden and Garrett Coleman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jerry Joe Womack; a sister, Juanita Bryant; and a brother, Marvin Womack;
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 5th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with James W. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Kidney Research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
