Iola E. Crow formerly of Braman, Oklahoma, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, in the Golden Oaks Village of Stillwater in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at the age of 101 years.
Iola E. Crow was born on August 21, 1907, in Indian Territory of Oklahoma to Orville Vernon and Verna (Miller) Hall. She attended school in Webb and Nardin and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1926. She attended Central State Teachers College for one year in Edmond, Oklahoma, receiving a two-year teaching certification and began her teaching career in a one-room school house in Nardin, where she received $70 per month. She taught all eight grades, all subjects, and was the custodian for her school. She returned to Oklahoma State A. & M. in Stillwater during the summers to earn her lifetime teaching certification. She met Joseph Wallace Crow in 1929 at a party they both attended with friends. They married on May 23, 1931, in Sedan, Kansas. They moved to a farm, which Joe's father had staked during the Cherokee Land Run, and began farming with five head of horses. Iola worked in the fields while her husband worked for Kay County on the roads. They later moved to a farm in Braman where they lived until her husband's death in 1990. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in Braman. She also held membership in the Oklahoma Education Association and Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Ann White-Mayns of Woodland Park, Colorado; two sons, Joseph Richard Crow of Memphis, Tennessee, and Robert Harold Crow of Glencoe, Oklahoma; a brother, Glen Hall of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Delora Williamson of Wichita, Kansas, and Mary Jean Cox of Albuquerque, New Mexico; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Raymond Wallace Crow; a grandson, Eric Robert Crow; a brother, Kermit Hall; and a sister, Maxine Hall.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14th in the First United Methodist Church in Braman, Oklahoma, with the Rev. C. M. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, Kansas.
Casketbearers will be Brent White, Jeremy Crow, Eric Still, Bob Land, Randy Crow, Allen Helsel, Mark Corbaley and JaRhome Moten.
