Herbert C. Hardin, 97, longtime Kay County Farmer and Rancher passed away in the early morning hours, Saturday, April 12th at the family home following a lengthy illness.
Herb was born January 6th, 1911, in Grant County, Oklahoma to Forrest and Margaret Hardin. Herb married Ruth Ward in 1932. The marriage of fifty seven years produced four daughters, 33 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. The daughters are Myrtha Wallingford, Atlanta, Ks; Virginia Mortensen, Blackwell; Doris Martin, Ft Worth, Tx; and Marilyn Litton, Vista, California.
After the passing of Ruth, Herb married Birdell Horn Lathers the widowed mother of Fred Lathers, South Haven, Jerry Lathers, Blackwell, Ted Lathers, Arkansas City and Dixie Mowbray, South Haven. He was also survived by one sister, Ida Mae Burrell of Cecilia, Kentucky.
The combined families enjoyed nearly eighteen happy years before losing Herb, the "Big Cohuna" of the clan.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John, Glenn, Robert, and Claude; two sisters, Margaret and Madeline; and one grandson, Mark Wallingford.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darren Williams of the First Christian Church in South Haven, Kansas, officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in South Haven, Kansas.
Casketbearers will be Robert Wallingford, Randy Martin, Mike Litton, Jeff Martin, David Wallingford, Gene Mortensen, James Wallingford, and John Mortensen.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 N. Union, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
The family will gather at the funeral home Tuesday, April 15, 2008, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm to greet friends.
