Obituary

Henry Leon Stafford of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died December 1, 2012, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 78 years.

Henry Leon Stafford was born on July 6, 1934, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Joseph H. and Annabelle (Cope) Stafford. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1953. Following his education he began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company and after a year he entered the United States Army where he served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War as a medic with the 1st Cavalry, 45th Infantry. He also served in Germany, Houston and San Antonio, Texas, Hawaii and Denver, Colorado. At the end of his military service he served as an advisor for the Oklahoma National Guard Medical Division. Following his retirement from the military he worked for twenty years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite achieving 32nd Degree Mason. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, the outdoors, squirrels and was an avid football and Oklahoma City Thunder fan.

He is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Stanley of Blackwell; a son, Richard Stafford and wife Elizabeth of Wichita, Kansas; a brother, Larry Stafford and wife Susan of Blackwell; grandchildren, Jason Stafford and wife Katie of Lincoln, Nebraska, Allison Stadler and husband Matt of Longmont, Colorado, Megan Snyder and husband Josh of Wichita, Kansas, Justin Stanley of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Rhiannon Stanley of Blackwell; and great grandchildren, Layla Lewis and Lily Stafford of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Benjamin and Samuel Stadler of Longmont, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a brother, Lonnie Stafford.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 6th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Matt Smith of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

The United States Army will serve as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be Jason Stafford, Matt Stadler, Justin Stanley, Josh Snyder, Ryan Spiva and Weston Spiva.
