William "Henry" Fetters of Blackwell died Saturday, July 14, 2012, at his residence in Blackwell at the age of 81 years.

Henry was born on October 25, 1930, on his great grandfather Turriff's birthday, on a farm close to Dover, Oklahoma, to Henry Emmett and Minnie Hazel ( Turriff) Fetters. He grew up in the Kingfisher area and attended schools in Kingfisher, Omega, Greenfield and Perry. One of his proudest accomplishments was graduating from Blackwell High School with his GED on July 8, 1971.

Henry moved to Blackwell at the age of fifteen and began working at the Blackwell Cheese Plant. He married Nancy Jane Evans on December 10, 1950, in Blackwell and they made Blackwell their home. He was employed at the Blackwell Zinc Smelter and the Acme Foundry until the plants closed. He later worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, General Motors in Arkansas City, and Smith-Gruner in Ponca City. In 1976 he began working at C. F. M in Blackwell and retired in 1995 as the Foundry Superintendent.

Following retirement he enjoyed volunteering at the First United Methodist Church, American Red Cross, Integris Blackwell Regional Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and the First United Methodist Church's Wednesday night dinners. He was a life member of the Top of Oklahoma Historical Society, Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Kay County and received the Community Award for Blackwell on November 10, 2007.

Henry was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell where he has served as a Trustee, member of the Administrative Board, Van Committee and Head Usher and was an active member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Men.

Henry loved to spend the summers on the lake where he pulled his son and daughter on water skis from sun up till sun down. Once the children were grown he loved to attend the local dances, listening to music and dancing with his wife.

Henry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all.

Survivors include his wife Nancy of Blackwell; a son, Chris Fetters and wife June of Blackwell; a daughter Denise Fetters Day and husband Ross of Flower Mound, Texas; grandchildren, Chase Fetters of Ponca City, Keaton Day of Flower Mound, Texas, Alysse Day of Houston, Texas, Cristin Hager and husband Steven of Ponca City, Brandi Bush of Stigler, Scott Gerboth of Blackwell, Adam Curtis of Cushing, Valerie Fisher and husband Jared of Ponca City, and Traci McHenry and husband Steve of Ponca City; ten great grandchildren; seven nephews; three nieces; three sisters-in-law, Marie Fetters, Dorothy Hill and husband James, and Charlene Canedy and husband John; along with many other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cleo and Theo Fetters; and a sister, Evelyn Cunningham.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell on Wednesday, July 18th, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Larry Adkisson of Collinsville, Oklahoma, and Rev. Pam Cottrell of Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

On Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the family will be at the funeral home to greet friends and family.

Casketbearers are Craig Canedy, David Canedy, Mark Hill, Rodney Fetters, Steve Fetters, and Tony Fetters.

Honorary casketbearers are the Friendship Sunday School Class.
