Hazel Mayree Turk of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday afternoon, October 31, 2010, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 87 years.
Hazel Mayree Turk was born on August 8, 1923, on a farm southwest of Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Marshal Lee and Martha Margaret (Fitzgerald) Glasgow. She grew up in Blackwell attending rural elementary school before attending Blackwell High School graduating in 1941. She married Albert Frederick Turk Jr. on June 6, 1944, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell and they settled on a farm northeast of Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker and worked for the draft board during World War II. She later worked as the secretary for the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell for over fifteen years. Her husband preceded her in death on September 10, 1996, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished seamstress.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Wells and husband Richard of Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania; two sons, Albert Lee Turk of San Diego, California, and Verlin Turk and wife Linda Sue of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two sisters, Helen Tyner of San Diego, California, and Margaret Brookey of San Clemente, California; and two grandchildren, Denise Wells of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and Kevin Wells of Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jim Glasgow; and a sister, Leona Pederson.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 4th in the Blackwell Cemetery with the Rev. Ned Moerbe of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
