Hazel Leota Porter of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday evening, May 9, 2012, at her son's home in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 92 years.
Hazel Leota Porter was born on May 29, 1919, near South Haven, Kansas, to Oliver and Elva (Cheatham) Hock. Following the death of her mother in 1923 she moved to Wichita to live with her aunt and uncle. She also lived in Milan, Mayfield, Arkansas City and Portland, Kansas. When her father re-married in 1932 she entered the eighth grade in Portland and later graduated from South Haven High School in 1937. She married Hubert Porter on April 8, 1939, in Caldwell, Kansas, and she served her family as a homemaker. She also worked as a cook for the Blackwell Public Schools and served as an inspector at the local voting precinct. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Blackwell.
She is survived by her son, Larry Porter of Amarillo, Texas; a daughter, Donna Rose of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and brothers, Jess, Glen, Paul, Vinton, Vernon, Milford, Marion, Russell, Oliver and Gordon Hock; and her sisters, Mildred Shockley and Maxine Tracy.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 14th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Herb Berkley of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
