Hazel Harrieze Frost of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at the Blackwell Regional Hospital, Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 91.
Hazel Harrieze Frost was born on July 6, 1921, in Oak Grove, Louisiana, to Hardy Z. and Stella (Adams) Gates. She married William P. Dees in 1941 in Louisiana and he preceded her in death in March of 1966. Before his passing, they moved to Alaska. She was a proud Alaskan pioneer woman, growing a garden, canning food and taking care of her family. She was also a mail carrier in Alaska. She married John Wilson Frost on October 6, 1969, in Palmer, Alaska. They moved to Urbana, Missouri, and then to Morrillton, Arkansas, where she enjoyed spending her time fishing. They then moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma, where she has lived for the last eighteen years. John preceded her in death on October 29, 2001. She enjoyed hand piecing, stitching quilts, and cooking for her family and many friends. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Hazel is survived by one daughter, Betty Roadifer and husband Bill of Valleyford, Washington; one son, Jack Dees and wife Sue of Melbourne, Florida; one sister, Parizade Greer of Rayville, Louisiana; five grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; many friends and family; and Jim and Edith Rath, good friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Iona Roberts; and three brothers, Troy Gates, Valarus Gates, and Marshal Gates.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at the Immanuel Baptist Church, Blackwell, Oklahoma, with Rev. Matt Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Blackwell Cemetery.
Honorary casketbearers will be Jim Rath, Duane Dees, Joe Ebert and Harold Cox. Casketbearers will be Jack Dees, Paul Adkins, Bill Roadifer, Larry Wyckoff, Jeff Love and Glynn Roberts.
