Obituary

Harry Lee Gregson of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday evening, October 30, 2011, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 81 years.

Harry Lee Gregson was born on May 7, 1930, in Blackwell to Raymond P. and Elsie Fern (Ayers) Gregson. Following the death of his father early in his life, his mother re-married and he was raised by his step-father, O. R. Allwhite. Harry grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools and graduating from Blackwell High School. He furthered his education by attending Oklahoma State University where he participated on the wrestling team. Following his education he returned to Blackwell and began working as a welder for the Blackwell Zinc Company. He married Auverne Spencer in 1950 and they settled in Blackwell where he continued to work for the foundry and began a hog farming operation. He married Judy Ellen Fairchild in 1972 and they made Blackwell their home. He retired from the smelter in 1974 when the plant closed. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell. He served on the New Bethel school board and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Beth Haley of Oklahoma City; two sons, Dennis Gregson of Oklahoma City and Larry Gregson of Blackwell; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and two brothers, Jim Gregson and Kenny Allwhite.

Services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 2nd in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Matt Smith of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Chase Gregson, Michael Gregson, Blaine Talbert, Robby Miller, Mike Gray and F. W. Haley.
