Obituary

Harriett Louis Burhman Wooderson of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died early Friday morning, January 14, 2011, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 93 years.

Harriett Louis Burhman Wooderson was born on August 2, 1917, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Vincent E. and Emma M. (Naddler) Doughty. In 1918 she moved with her family to Three Sands south of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, before returning to Missouri to make their home in Bethany. In 1924 they family moved to Blackwell where she grew up attending Blackwell Public Schools and graduating from Blackwell High School in 1935. She furthered her education by attending Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma, where she received her bachelor's degree in 1939. She then began her teaching career in the Gore Public Schools where she taught first through third grades. After one year she taught second grade in the Stillwater Public Schools for two years. In 1947 she married Kenneth "Bill" Daniels and in 1954 she began her career in the Blackwell Public Schools where she taught second grade until 1960 when she began teaching Spanish in the high school. Her husband preceded her in death in 1961 and she later married Charles Burhman in 1962. She continued teaching Spanish until her retirement on May 23, 1980. Following the death of Charles she later married Lawrence Wooderson in 1981. He preceded her in death in 1987 and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell where she sang in the church choir. She enjoyed china painting and traveling.

She is survived by her nephew, David Carter and wife Betty of Ponca City, Oklahoma; step-sons, Dale Wooderson and wife Eva of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Harold Wooderson and wife Mary Ellen of Blackwell, Oklahoma; step-daughter, Naomi Lucas of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and step-daughter-in-law, Phyllis Wooderson of Blackwell, Oklahoma.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Carter; and a step-son, Verle Wooderson.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 17th in the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Robert Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Honorary casketbearers will be Cecil Sodowsky, Leslie Page, Jim Menzer Sr. and Tom Sims.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for heart research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
