Harriett Marie McDonell formerly of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died early Wednesday morning, February 23, 2011, at her son's home in Edmond, Oklahoma, at the age of 94 years.
Harriett Marie McDonell was born on September 17, 1916, in Cavour, South Dakota, to Oscar Carl and Eva Mary (Bruhn) Bergstrom. She grew up on a farm near Cavour and attended Huron High School in Huron, South Dakota, graduating in 1935. Following her education she began working for a branch of the Nash Finch Company. She married Rupert B. McDonell on November 26, 1938, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1963 they moved to Blackwell where she served her family as a mother and homemaker. They were active members of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and served on the Altar Society. They later moved to Hereford, Texas, before returning to Blackwell in 1982. She enjoyed playing cards and attending the senior citizen dances at the American Legion Hall.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Cavanaugh and husband Rodger of Neeneh, Wisconsin, and Nancy Booth and husband John of Ft. Worth, Texas; three sons, Tom McDonell and wife Marilyn of Edmond, Oklahoma, Terry McDonell and wife Sue Ann of Houston, Texas, and Rod McDonell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Fred and Nels Bergstrom; two sisters, Posey Lawson and Irene Johnson; and a granddaughter, Lenay McDonell.
Funeral mass is set for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 1st in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Blackwell with Father Larok Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Tom McDonell, Terry McDonell, Rod McDonell, Kevin McDonell, Brian McDonell, John Booth and Rodger Cavanaugh.
A memorial has been established in her honor with the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
