Harold Lee Johnson was born on April 19, 1956, to Jerry and Kathleen (Brooks) Johnson. He grew up with his brothers, Mike and Steve, northeast of Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools. He furthered his education by attending college for two years. His leadership ability was recognized quite early and he always wanted to help his classmates in most anything they were doing. He was also a strong influence in the lives of his brothers. From an early age he was involved in farming, having started his own hay hauling operation as a teenager with several of his friends. He excelled in F.F.A. during high school winning many awards and ribbons for his show animals at livestock shows and fairs. During his senior year he was awarded the State Farmer Degree in 1974. He married Danna June White on August 8, 1979, in Blackwell and they settled in Blackwell. His love for farming has been passed on to his two exceptional children who also were awarded the State Farmer Degree, with his daughter also winning the American Farmer Degree. Harold's involvement wasn't just restricted to his children. He was actively involved with other children who shared his love of the land by furnishing animals for those who could not afford them. He also spent time assisting several elderly people with jobs around their homes and farms. He is a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell and was baptized on Easter Sunday of 1990. Over the years he has been active with hosting weenie roasts and hay rides for youth and young adults. He also served as a board of director for the Kay County Farm Bureau and participated in all activities until his illness.
