Gordon Sandy Prather formerly of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday
afternoon, April 9, 2012, in the Thomas Creek Veterans Hospital in
Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 79 years.
Gordon Sandy Prather was born on August 30, 1932, in Blackwell,
Oklahoma, to Harold Gordon and Lois Mae (Moore) Prather. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1950. He furthered his education by attending Oklahoma A. & M. in Stillwater for two years before transferring to the University of Oklahoma in Norman graduating with a degree in
geology. Gordon married Mary Helen Wickham on September 4, 1954. He served two years in Baumholder, Germany, with the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Armored Division. Following his discharge Gordon began working as a geologist for Pure Oil Company. In 1961 he began working as an independent geologist until his
retirement. He was also a member of both the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Panhandle Geological Society.
Gordon married Elizabeth "Bet" Collins on December 20th, 1966 in
Amarillo, Texas.
Gordons' hobbies included golf, traveling, reading, watercolor
painting and spending time with family and friends. He was always
willing to help others with their problems and make a positive
difference in their lives.
He is survived by two daughters, Chris Clements of Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma, and Lisa McKnight of Amarillo, Texas; two sons, Mark Prather and Mike Prather both of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren, Alex,
Shawn, Amy, Mandy, Shiloh, Seth, and Shalee; and two great
grandchildren Brock, and Jesse.
A private burial will be in the Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell, Oklahoma.
