Obituary

Gloverine (Hood) Stiger formerly of Braman, Oklahoma, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, in Destrehan, Louisiana, at the age of 91 years.

Gloverine (Hood) Stiger was born on November 18, 1919 in Braman, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Robert and Laura (Orr) Hood. She was a devoted wife to Curtis Stiger, who preceded her in death in 1968, a loving mother to Larry Stiger and wife Linda of Destrehan, Louisiana; Patty Mankin and husband Sam of Lilburn, Georgia; and Bob Stiger and wife Carla of Newport, Arkansas; and a loyal friend to many.
She was known as GiGi to her grandchildren, Andy Mankin of Brentwood, Tennessee, Ashley Bradley of Nashville, Tennessee, Mike Stiger of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Susan Stroud of Marietta, Georgia, and Lauren Finger of Abilene, Texas. They delighted in trips to New Orleans to see her, as did her 10 great-grandchildren. They are Max and Campbell Mankin of Brentwood, Tennessee, Maddie and Drew Bradley of Nashville, Tennessee, Alli, Ava, and Autum Stroud of Marietta, Georgia, and Emily, Catherine, and Sarah Stiger of N. Little Rock, Arkansas. All of them were present for her 90th birthday celebration in 2009. She made the effort to attend the high school and college graduations of her grandchildren and of their weddings, no matter how far she had to travel. Though living far from Oklahoma for most of her life, she remained close to relatives there and enjoyed trips back "home". For many years she attended the reunions of her graduating class of 1938 and kept in contact with surviving members.
GiGi was gifted in many areas. She loved to write and did so beautifully both in content and penmanship. She worked on crafts, taking great care in the perfection of the particular skill. Her hooked rugs are prized by family members as well as works of paper tole and decoupage. She often said that she followed the oil field as her husband was transferred from Oklahoma, to Kansas, New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana. In each state she made lifelong friends. After his death she worked in her son's pharmacy, Stiger Drugs, as a bookkeeper. As with any task she undertook, she was meticulous in the execution of her duties.

GiGi was a member of the Church of Christ, worshipping at Carrollton Avenue Church of Christ in New Orleans and in recent years at the Hickory Knoll Church of Christ in Harahan. There, too, she enjoyed the friendship of many. She supported the work of the church and had a special affinity for helping children's homes. For several years she worked at Volunteer's of America with infants needing special attention.
