Obituary

Glenda Lucille Koelling Sole was born on a farm southeast of Nardin, Oklahoma, on November 10, 1919, to Frank H. and Ica Ann (Fauchier) Koelling. She passed from this life to enter heaven on August 28, 2012, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Glenda is survived by three step-children, Kenneth G. Sole of Tulsa, Polly Sole Davis and husband Jim of Tulsa and Karen Sole Ghormley and husband Wayne, of Edmond; two nephews, Mike Riley and his wife, Mignon of Monroe, Louisiana, and Paul Koelling of Oregon; and a niece, Mary Koelling of Athens, Texas. A beloved son, Kenny Joe Sole preceded her in death in 2002 as did her husband of over fifty years, Kenneth R. Sole in 2011. She is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She married Kenny in 1959 and they lived in Tulsa until his retirement. Glenda and Kenny returned to Blackwell in 1993 where they made their home until Kenny's death. Glenda moved to Tulsa earlier this year.

Glenda was a loving and faithful wife to her husband and a caring and attentive friend to her step-children, as well as to her grandchildren. One of her Davis granddaughters remembers fondly staying with her Gram and Papaw at their house in Tulsa. One summer night in particular when it was storming, Gram took her into her bed. She didn't know until years later that Glenda didn't get a wink of sleep that night. She remembers riding bicycles to the corner store and buying candy and Gram would always buy a cherry mash – her favorite. They remember such easy and fun times with Gram. They thought that is what a great-grandparent was and Glenda epitomized it. Both Davis granddaughters remember Glenda had such an infectious laugh and beautiful smile. They remember her as always looking so beautiful and regal…like a model…always coifed and elegant. We remember the wonderful after church Sunday dinners when Glenda would make delicious fried chicken for the whole gathered clan – delicious to us that is. Glenda hated chicken! But she entertained the Sole clan at the drop of a hat and managed to do it with great aplomb. She will be sorely missed for her laughter and love.

On behalf of Brenda Brown: She always would do our nails; she used Niva for hand cream. She made the best potato salad and deviled eggs. I would lay my head in her lap at church and she would run her fingers through my hair. She gave me cloves to chew on for fresh breath. I would ride my motorcycle out to the red barn and time myself to see how fast I could do it. I loved the lake house and remember her exercise classes in the pool and she was always stretching.

But most of all she was my biggest cheerleader in ministry. She always told me how much she loved me and how proud she was of what I was doing. She adored my family. They were my first ministry partners and never missed a month in their giving.
This summer she was so intentional in communicating how much she loved me, what a great granddaughter I had been and once again how proud she was of me. It is sad for me to lose someone like that in my life.

Memorial services and interment are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Blackwell Cemetery with Rev. Matt Smith of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating.

Memorials have been established in her honor with the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund and the Blackwell Public Library in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
