Obituary

Frank Kyle Moreland died peacefully in his home on March 9, 2026 after a very short battle with cancer.

Frank was born in Sallisaw, OK on December 9, 1950 to Eula Matthews and Andrew Mathis. His parents died when Frank was a very young boy, and he and his twin brothers were placed into an orphanage. Frank was adopted when he was around five years old by Kyle and Ruth Moreland. He was raised in Blackwell, OK and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1969.

Frank joined the Navy and served 4 years. He returned home to Blackwell where he worked with his dad custom harvesting. They traveled from Oklahoma to North Dakota as well as to Texas. It was in North Dakota where he met his first love, Donna Schlosser. They married in 1975, and had the first of 2 children, Chad Moreland, and in 1978 they had their second born, Tonya Moreland-Hill. He ended his custom harvesting career in the 80’s and worked several other jobs before starting his career as a mailman for the Blackwell Post office. This is where he built many of his friendships and his reputation as a hard working, kind and generous man.

After 43 years of marriage Donna, his first love, passed away from cancer. In 2019 he reconnected with a high school friend, Joyce Miller, and they were married in June 2020.

Throughout his life, Frank had many jobs and taught his children what hard work and work ethic meant. He loved being outside even after walking 10-11 miles a day as a mailman. He took great pride in making his yard beautiful and beamed proudly when getting “yard of the week.” He loved to travel and see the fall foliage and waterfalls among other things in nature. He expressed such joy when visiting his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Frank is survived by his wife, Joyce Miller-Moreland; His son and wife, Chad and Jessica Moreland, of Florida; Daughter and husband, Tonya and Matthew Hill, of Blackwell, OK; Grandchildren: Cody Mcdonald and partner Melanie Dejesus; Cassandra Dorantes and husband, AJ; Cheyenne Moreland and wife Krystal; Jace Moreland and partner Lidia; Dustin Hill and wife Bailee, Marissa Hill, and Samantha Hill and partner Aaron Pawlikowski. Sisters: Edna Dodson of Sallisaw, OK; Bonnie Taylor of Sallisaw, OK, Marsha Golay of Cushing, OK. Brothers: Wilbert “Bert” Boone and William “Bill” Boone and numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his biological parents, Eula and Andrew Mathis, 6 biological siblings, his adoptive parents Kyle, Ruth, and Eila Moreland and his first love Donna Moreland.

Frank asked that those who come to his memorial wear crimson and cream or his favorite color blue.

Also in lieu of flowers please donate to the American Red Cross. Frank donated blood every chance he could and was very upset when he was told he could no longer donate.

A Visitation will be held 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday. A Rosary Service will begin at 7:00 PM in the Roberts Chapel.

A Funeral Mass will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 14, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Blackwell, with Father Balaswami Bathini officiating.
