Floyd Henry Tanner of Braman, Oklahoma, died late Tuesday evening, April 27, 2010, at his home northeast of Braman at the age of 82 years.
Floyd Henry Tanner was born on June 20, 1927, in Gardena, California, to Stephen Floyd and Frieda Marie Adelaide (Dahlke) Tanner. In May of 1932 he moved with his family to Agra, Oklahoma, where he grew up and attended Agra Public Schools graduating in 1946. Following his education he began working on a farm for Harold Fox before working as a mechanic for the Oldham Massey-Harris Implement Dealership in Blackwell. He married Bessie Jane Huston on September 7, 1952, in Blackwell and they settled in Tonkawa where he began working as a mechanic for Don Roller Chevrolet. In 1956 he worked for Williams Oil Tool Company in Tonkawa. In 1958 they moved to Braman where he began his farming operation and worked in the oilfields for Porter Drilling Company. He also worked other various jobs in southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma. He enjoyed steam engine shows, threshing machines and tinkering around the farm while teaching himself various mechanical trades. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Tanner of Braman, Oklahoma; three daughters, Elizabeth Schwerdtfeger and husband Daryl of Capron, Oklahoma, Sara Nelms and husband Harold of Frisco, Texas, and Laura Grafton and husband Anthony K. of Batesville, Arkansas; four sons, Richard Tanner and wife Janet of Argyle, Texas, David Tanner and wife Shelly of South Haven, Kansas, Marvin Tanner of South Haven, Kansas, and Carl Tanner and wife Leanna of Braman, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren, Jonathan, Chance, Amy, Eric, Sondra, Nenden, Cynthia, Danny, Karlea, Baylee, Benjamin and Ruby; a sister, Frieda Jones of Arkansas City, Kansas; and two brothers, Francis Tanner and wife Earlene of Del City, Oklahoma, and Virgil Tanner and wife Dorthy of Newkirk, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Everett and Loy Tanner.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 1st in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with Mark Meador of First Baptist Church in Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, Kansas.
Casketbearers will be Carl Tanner, Richard Tanner, David Tanner, Marvin Tanner, Eric Schwerdtfeger and Harold Nelms.
