Floyd George Baldridge of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday morning July 24, 2009, surrounded by his three daughters in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 84 years.
Floyd George Baldridge was born on May 19, 1925, in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He was the son of William Thomas and Retta (West) Baldridge. He grew up in the Sallisaw area.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1945,
serving his country faithfully at the Battle of
the Bulge in Germany during World War II. He
married Hazel Lee Potts of Hulbert,
Oklahoma, on August 14, 1946, in Tennessee.
He was honorably discharged in 1947 and
they settled in Blackwell, Oklahoma where he
began working at the Blackwell Zinc Company. He worked in the mechanical
department from June 10,1948, until its
closing. Following his retirement they spent
the winter months in Port Aransas, Texas,
and the summer months in Blackwell,
Oklahoma. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed working in his
garden and selling his tomatoes to local residents every year. He was a member of the American Legion Blackwell Post, V.F.W. Blackwell Post and also held membership in the Cherokee Tribal Nation.
He is survived by his three daughters, Barbara Taylor and husband Don of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Pat Miller and husband Ed of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Linda Brown of
Blackwell, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Derry
Taylor and wife Brenda, Jeff Taylor and wife
Leslie, Kerry (Miller) Vaverka and husband
Shawn, Kevin Miller, Chad Brown and wife
Christie, and Kelly Brown and Blanca; ten
great grandchildren, Dakota, Austin, Denton,
and Devon Taylor, Jordan and Morgan
Vaverka, Carlee and Parker Miller, and Megan
and Blake Brown; and one brother, Harvel Baldridge and wife Fleta of Tahlequah,Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel Baldridge;
four sisters, Alma Conrad, Hazel Thompson,
Bess Roberts, and Azel Baldridge; and four
brothers, Clebourn Baldridge, Lloyd Baldridge,
Orvel Baldridge, and Kenneth Baldridge.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 27th in the Blackwell
Cemetery with Rev. Paul Anderson of Image
Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in the
Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Derry Taylor, Jeff Taylor, Kerry Vaverka, Shawn Vaverka, Kevin
Miller, Chad Brown and Kelly Brown.
Honorary casketbearers will be Dakota Taylor, Austin Taylor, Denton Taylor, Devon Taylor, Jordan Vaverka, Morgan Vaverka, Carlee Miller, Parker Miller, Megan Brown, Blake Brown, Don Taylor and Ed Miller.
