Florence Kathrine Jeffers of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died early Tuesday morning, February 3, 2009, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 88 years.

Florence Kathrine Jeffers was born on April 27, 1920, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to Nathaniel and Marie (Bulling) Gilmore. She grew up and began attending school in the Orlando, Oklahoma, area before moving to Holly, Colorado, where she completed her education graduating from Holly High School in 1938. She then furthered her education by attending Colorado Women's College for two years before transferring to the University of Oklahoma where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. She married Jack J. Jeffers on January 9, 1940, in Norman, Oklahoma. She later received her Masters degree in special education from Oregon University. In 1950 they moved to Bend, Oregon, and she worked as a speech therapist for the Bend Public School system for thirty years. In 2002 she moved with her husband to Blackwell to make their home. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Blackwell and loved to travel the world with her husband. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2009.

She is survived by a daughter, Pat Carter of Hood River, Oregon; a son, Mike Jeffers of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a sister, Doris Adams of San Bernardino, California; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Private family graveside services will be held in the Zion Cemetery in Orlando, Oklahoma.

Honorary caskebearers will be Mike Jeffers, Larry Carter, Michael O'Grady, Matthew Smith, Jonah Smith and Michael Ryan Jeffers.

The family request that a memorial be made in lieu of flowers to the Associated Charities in Blackwell in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
