Eileen Fern "Peggy" North of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Saturday night January 8, 2011, at the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 86 years.
Eileen Fern "Peggy" North was born on November 4, 1924, in Jennings, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Walter Leslie and Bertha Agnes (Ingle) Hoover. She grew up in Hominy, Nardin, Tonkawa, and Hubbard Oil Field where her father worked in the oil fields. She attended Valley Center Rural School and Blackwell High School. She married Burdell North on March 17, 1941, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and they made their home in Blackwell while Burdell was in the Military serving during World War II. After his discharge he returned to Blackwell and they moved east of Blackwell on a farm, where she served her family as a homemaker. In the early 1980's they moved into town. On December 4, 1989, Burdell preceded her in death and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Walter North of Denver, Colorado, and Mack North and wife Pam of Blackwell, Oklahoma; one sister, Della Hughes of Hominy, Oklahoma; one brother, Donald Hoover of Dennison, Texas; eight grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burdell; one daughter, Marilynn Swopes; one granddaughter, Shelly Oneth; four brothers; and two sisters.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2011, in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Foos of Edmond First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be the grandsons of Peggy North.
A memorial has been established at Blackwell Regional Hospital Foundation and Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
