Obituary

Everett Eugene Cox, longtime resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 20, 2010, in the Via Christi Village at the age of 89 years.

Everett Eugene Cox was born on June 24, 1921, in Douglass, Oklahoma, to Charley and Grace Hayworth Cox. He attended schools in the Billings area before enlisting in the Army in 1940 serving at several bases in Texas and Oklahoma before being discharged from Camp Gruber, Oklahoma, in 1943.

Everett married Dorothy Baskin on February 6, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of the San Antonio Police Department before moving to Enid, Oklahoma, in 1950. While residing in Enid he worked for OG&E, Enid Police Department and the United States Postal Service. In 1953 they moved to Ponca City where he began working for the Ponca City Police Department, advancing to Sergeant before his retirement in 1973. He was a charter member of the local FOP Chapter #102. After retiring from the Police Department he began working for the Oklahoma State Employment Service retiring once again in 1984. Everett loved flying, especially his Piper Cherokee he owned for several years. He also enjoyed fishing and restoring antique cars. He was a member of Northeast Baptist Church in Ponca City.

He is survived by a son, Charles H. Cox of Arkansas City, Kansas; two daughters, Connie Pameticky and husband Terry of Ponca City, and Eugenia Faye Tyner of Ponca City; a brother, Donald Cox of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a sister, Verna Mae Cox Norton of Walton, Indiana; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a sister; and three brothers.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 24th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with James Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Longwood Cemetery in Ponca City.
